Miss Midgley’s a designers dream stay in Brisbane.

Heritage brought gently into the now
We headed up to Brisbane recently to do some sourcing for some upcoming projects, this trip was made infinitely sweeter by the stay at Miss Midgley’s. The property became a sanctuary where design whispers and tactile details invited us to breathe, reflect, and recharge.

We appreciated the freshness of the salmon and terracotta tones reflecting Brisbane light; the thoughtful layout—where the bedroom flows naturally through living into kitchenette; and how it all feels rooted in place, yet boldly contemporary. Miss Midgley’s reminded us that design can be layered, rooted, and luxurious, all at once. Miss Midgley’s breathes life into its 160-year-old bones, embracing original decorative plaster ceilings, exposed Petrie brickwork, and beautifully mismatched floorboards uncovered during renovation. These elements root every space in narrative depth and authenticity, while the modern interventions feel entirely of-the-moment.

A fresh palette that speaks softly yet confidently

Where many heritage conversions rely on muted tones or pastiche, here the designers lean into a bold-yet-refined palette—salmon-hued walls, pink Italian porcelain tiles, and warm russets that echo the natural apricot undertones of the stone façade and Brisbane tuff. It’s a harmonious, layered coloration that feels both surprising and serenely cohesive.

Modern luxury with personality

Each self-contained apartment is a study in purposeful luxury—full kitchens with terrazzo or Brazilian granite benches, brass-accented tables, lovely bathrooms, and plush, velvet-upholstered curved lounges. But it never veers into fuss; instead, it’s elegantly restrained.

Behind this extraordinary offering are Lisa and Isabella White—a mother-and-daughter duo, both with Masters of Architecture from the University of Queensland—whose creative vision has brought this remarkable space to life.

Intimate scale and experiential flow

Arriving at Miss Midgley’s feels more like coming home than staying at a hotel. Each apartment, from Assembly Hall to Principal’s Office, has a dedicated carpark and a front-door entrance—no lobby, no corridors, no elevators. It's intimate, tactile, and refreshingly un-hotel-like

Indoor meets outdoor in seamless harmony

Private courtyards, balconies, and the communal heated pool blur the boundaries between inside and outside, filling the property with a lush Queensland warmth. The sun deck and greenery are an invitation to linger.

Local, clever hospitality

This isn’t just architecture dressed up. Each apartment has a strong sense of place—subtle local works, personal touches, and a boutique-level of hospitality that feels considered and welcoming.

At Designory, we champion light, layered aesthetics and living design. Miss Midgleys isn’t just about the past—it’s about building on it with rich colour, tactile layering, contemporary forms, and place-based warmth. This visit reaffirmed how design can elevate everyday stays into stories that linger. Next time you’re in Brisbane, see if you can swing by—or better yet, treat yourself to a stay. A city escape doesn’t need a beach view—it just needs a space that’s smart, soulful, and beautifully of its place.
