Through the Keyhole: Barefoot Bay Cottage by The Designory

Welcome to the next installment of Through the Keyhole – Design Tour with Melissa Bonney. This episode is especially close to our hearts as Melissa takes you through one of our own projects: Barefoot Bay Cottage.

Located in the laid-back surrounds of Byron Bay, this holiday home is the definition of cosy coastal living. The moment you step inside, it feels like a warm hug—inviting, calm, and infused with that barefoot, by-the-beach energy that Byron is known for.

Barefoot Bay Cottage is one of our most-loved projects, and we can’t wait to share it with you in more detail. Join Melissa as she opens the door in our latest Through the Keyhole episode and discover why this home has become a Designory favourite.

Barefoot Bay Cottage began life as a traditional beach shack before undergoing a thoughtful renovation and extension. We wanted to retain the soul of the cottage while opening it up to modern coastal charm, layering in warmth, tactility, and character-filled details that make every stay memorable.

The home comfortably sleeps up to 10 people, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and plenty of thoughtful extras including a laundry, outdoor bath, and a plunge pool. Designed with entertaining in mind, it offers two indoor sitting areas and a 10-seater covered outdoor dining space—the perfect spot to gather with friends and family, surrounded by tropical gardens.

Every element of Barefoot Bay Cottage was created to encourage connection—whether it’s enjoying long dinners under the pergola, sinking into a lounge after a swim, or simply soaking in the outdoor bath under the stars. Its location—just moments from the beach and Byron town—makes it as practical as it is beautiful.
